(via Apple leaks Cinema Display refresh, teases dual-monitor Thunderbolt setup? — Engadget) At LAst!!
I thought I’d post this here for all you Cannondale Lefty lovers. I guess we are all supposed to magically know this, but I did not. Yesterday I was about to go for a ride and swapped my front wheel (I have 2x UST - one with tyre for mud and one for dry conditions) over. When I tried to fasten the other wheel a strange thing happened, the bolt just span around and around and it was as if I could not get the thread to bite. I tried the original wheel and still no joy?! A mild panic thinking I’ve stripped the tread in the axle was slightly reduced after inspection - the thread seemed fine! Ok so I took the lefty hub in the wheel apart and when I removed the bolt from the original wheel I noticed a mangled up piece of what looked like a spring! Ok so I got onto google and eventually found a forum that explained the newer lefty’s run what is called a HeliCoil inside the thread to prevent stripping of the thread in the axle. Well they could have bloody warned me about it. They use a size M10 - 1.0 and you probably want to keep hold of a handful of spares, if your’s go like mine did whilst you are in the middle of nowhere - then you are seriously in trouble as you won’t be able to fix your front wheel to your frame!!!! Seriously Cannondale, I love your products, but this is a silly design, I can see the point, but at least come up with a way you can help yourself if this goes wrong!
